October 2003: Hutt City Promotes Zero Tolerance Against ALL Dog Owners!!!
During 2003, and probably in reaction to Auckland's problems with badly trained dogs, the Mayor and a couple of Councillors initiated a campaign to change the Dog Control bylaws in Hutt City.
The ultimate target of their campaign was the banning of dog owners and their dogs from the beaches .....
We had the facts to support our case (there were no genuine problems and no substance to their argument about personal safety, etc). In doing so, these elected representatives ignored data confirming the dog problems they were concerned about were occurring in other areas of Hutt City.
